Les Karellis ski resort was created in 1975 and is located in the heart of the Maurienne in Savoie. It is situated at an altitude between 1650 and 2495 meters above sea level and thanks to its northern exposure it enjoys a rather cold climate, guaranteeing abundant snow cover during the whole season. The station has 60 km of slopes for all levels; in addition, a snowpark, a boardercross track and a toboggan run. Approximately 80% of the slopes are 2000 m above sea level.
Curiosity: In 1955, following to the depopulation of mountain areas and the decline of agricultural activities, Pierre Lainé convinced the municipal council of the time with its innovative idea: to build a ski resort based on associative tourism. This is how Les Karellis was born, the only association ski resort in Europe, composed solely of social economy players (associations, cooperatives, municipal public service), giving new life to an area in total depopulation, in a sustainable and socially helpful way.
