Montgenèvre, at 1860 mt above sea level stands out for its originality: a welcoming plain, two parallel slopes, the historic village at the confluence of the slopes and a horizon that surrounds us. The atmosphere is immediately pleasant and you can easily become attached to the charm of this town. The Montgenèvre ski resort offers two areas that extend on both sides of the valley, connected by a rational network of facilities. The largest area in the north, in the shadow of Mount Chenaillet, has slopes that are not too difficult. The most technical part is on the other side, to the south, around Mount Serre Thibaud, near the top of which comes the homonymous telemix. The nice surprise of Montgenevre lies mainly in its off-piste area. An off-piste between the High Alps and Italy with programmed snow and often even the sun, thanks to the influence of the Mediterranean climate surrounded by the Ecrins and the Monviso, which stands out from the horizon of the snowy peaks. Some freeride areas are guarded but the immensity of the area retains its purity. Cross-country skiers find 17 km to Claviere in Italy or to the Valle della Clarèe.
Curiosity: It is about a century that you ski on the slopes of the pass of Montgenèvre. In 1907 Claviere held the first International Ski Competition with 23 competitors and between 1909 and 1910 the trips of members of the Ski Club Torino intensified in an area that has always had some of the most favorable snow conditions in the Western Alps.
Doozy: For those who want to have fun in nature there is a new "Monty Express" toboggan of 1400 m that goes down through woods, on wooden bridges or in tunnels. The circuit winds through the forest, continuing with bends and steeper sections, before taking the two tunnels and reaching the finish line.
